Agricultural Wages Board Lobby - November 2012
Country Standard supporters proud to support Unite Rural workers, lobby of Parliament to highlight the threat to the Agricultural Wages Board on Monday 12th November 2012.
Other key supporters included Mary Creagh shadow Sec of State for Defra, shadow Farm Minister Huw Irranca-Davies and TUC Secretary Francis O'Grady.
One person missing was Coalition Farm Minister David Heath, who had as Liberal Democrat MP for Somerset supported the retention of the Agricultural Wages Board, but who now as a Coalition Minister opposes.
The Liberals last Farm Minister in 1907 introduced the Agricultural Wages Board, now a Liberal wants to abolish it - A party of no principles !
The Agricultural Wages Board sets the pay for many rural workers, including many EU agricultural labourers, who remain vulnerable to exploitation. It also sets a bench mark for many other rural jobs.
